About Woodbury

The city of Woodbury lies east of the Twin Cities in Minnesota along Interstate 94. An interesting fact about Woodbury is that it is a direct descendant of one of the original congressional townships back when Minnesota Territory was divided up. The original name was Red Rock, but then Levi Woodbury, the first justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, realized there was another Red Rock already in Minnesota. As a result, the city was renamed to Woodbury.

Woodbury was mostly a wooded area when farmers began to settle the area in 1844. Gradually, the land was converted to farmland as it was ideally situated between the St. Croix River and the Mississippi. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that suburban neighborhoods began popping up in Woodbury. More and more of the farmland gave way to urban sprawl, highways, and shopping centers.  Today, Woodbury is a busy and ever growing city known for its awesome shopping and restaurants.
